Martina Ruiz
We have gotten the chance to sit down with Martina Ruiz, yet another woman whose dreams have manifested in the heart of downtown Pleasanton. Named Le Palais Sucré, Martina and her family worked together to make a multi-cultured cafe that provides both A-grade service and taste.
As an immigrant, Martina had to pave her own way in America to achieve her American dream starting at age 17. With her background of working in the restaurant field, she has been planning the store for around 15-20 years. 4 years ago, she managed the grand opening of Lew Palais Sucré, a cafe centered around French pastries in order for her to share her love of them with Pleasanton.
In fact, the name Le Palais Sucré means “The Sweet Palace”, coined after Martina’s love for sweet pastries. She takes care of almost every aspect one can think of while handling a store: the food, service, interior, all the way down to the exact way coffee beans are prepared - it is thanks to her experiences of working in restaurants that she is able to run her cafe in such high quality.
Wanting to provide an original taste that lives up to expectations, many of the foods provided are a mixture of Mexican and French cuisines. La Palais Sucré not only aims to introduce fusions to Pleasanton, but it also works to be a stable source of authenticity for its community.
While originally, it was planned to be a cafe with crepes and coffee, Martina realized that families couldn’t have a full meal based off of just those two items. That’s why she expanded into sandwiches and breakfast - pouring her heart into the menu - in order to provide the best service for her customers. In the future though, she hopes to expand it into a place for fine dining, filled with delectable tastes.
Though there have been ups and downs in her road, Martina still continues to walk the path forward. She has said that “if you keep working for it, you’ll eventually get it.” Every single day is an improvement and a step climbed. Every day is a contribution to the city of Pleasanton as the food keeps on getting better and better.
Take a walk downtown, visit Le Palais Sucré and try the fajitas or the sweet red berry crěpe. See Martina Ruiz’s efforts come to life as the exquisiteness of food fills Pleasanton's air.
