As an immigrant, Martina Ruiz had to pave her own way in America to achieve her American dream starting at age 17. She takes care of almost every aspect one can think of while handling a store: the food, service, interior, down to the way coffee beans are prepared - it is thanks to her experiences of working in restaurants that she is able to run her cafe in such high quality.

La Palais Sucré not only aims to introduce fusions to Pleasanton, but it also works to be a stable source of authenticity for its community. It is a place like no other.

Recently, we sat down and interviewed the owner to get a better glimpse of what Macchi provides for the people of Pleasanton. The owner, Winnie, shared her obstacles, hopes, and dreams. As a first generation, she had to figure out her way through America.

She didn’t always plan for this to become a cafe. Rather, her initial thought was to open a coffee shop but after some searching, it was clear that there was an abundance of coffee shops centered in Pleasanton: Inklings, Phils, Bagel Cafe, Starbucks, and Peets. So, she sought something new.
